Millions of contents being written everyday, only a few
are likely to remain relevant for months or years to come. These contents that
remain relevant for years are called evergreen content. An evergreen content can encourage people to read your post, link to
them and share them for years and years.
What makes content evergreen is an enduring quality that
is unlikely to change. For example, you can consider this article and there is
hardly any chance that the content will loose it’s relevance in the years to
come. On the contrary, some news articles can become very popular at the time
they get published but will loose their relevance quickly.
Evergreen contents are extremely valuable for any blog.
A well written piece of content that does an excellent job at answering a
question, explaining how to do something, or reviewing a place in detail can
satisfy people over a long period of time. It can receive a high volume of
traffic. As evergreen content is enduring and capable of receiving traffic for
years from search engines, directories and other useful links, it can strengthen
your blog.
If you just publish articles on recent issues, only a
few days later it will no longer remain current as the news is old. You will have
to update your blog regularly to keep your readers abreast of the information you
are providing. If you take a day off, then your traffic will be gone. No one
likes old news.
On the contrary, if you write
evergreen content, it will never become old. So if you take a day off, it
won’t affect your blog as the visitors will have so many things to read. You
don’t need to update your blog on a regular basis too. Evergreen content is like
a bond that pays the dividend over a long period of time. You keep
receiving traffic even if you don’t write for a week or a month
even.
Try to write as many evergreen contents as possible. It
will increase your blogs credibility. That being said, you don’t always need to
stick to writing evergreen contents. Sometimes it is necessary to write on
current issues. But if you write evergreen articles at least once a week, this
will become treasures of your blog and will keep giving you dividend over a long
period of time.
